A world without ships
We are part of an invisible industry and so it is not hard to imagine a world without ships. So let’s do that now.
A container ship carries goods the equivalent of 10,000 lorries. Just imagine what would happen if that ship did not exist and we had 10,000 more lorries on our roads. Think of the congestion, think of the CO2 emissions.
Bulk carriers transport cargoes of iron ore, coal and other raw materials. But they also carry food. A large ship carries 200,000 tonnes of wheat, this enough to feed 500,000 people for a whole year. Just think if we did not take grain from Canada and Australia and deliver it to the hungry of the World.

18 million people, 3 million cars and 1.6 million lorries pass through the port of Dover every year. These are all carried onboard ferries. Imagine the environmental of cost of carrying 18 million more people by air.
If shipping did not exist, half the world would starve and we would see a collapse in the world’s economy. Everyone on this planet relies upon ships.
Shipping matters. Sea’s the future.
