Careers at Sea with the Merchant Navy
A career in the Merchant Navy is exciting, interesting and ultimately, very rewarding. Good rates of pay, World travel and stimulating work and all backed-up by top class professional qualifications. You will gain an internationaly recognised certificate of competency which will allow you to work onboard any ship. Further, if you join with at least 120 UCAS points in A levels or Highers, you will gain degree sponsorship

There are three entry routes by which you can become either an engineering or deck officer. These routes are dependant upon your existing qualifications which can range from having GCSEs to a degree. If you join as a deck officer then you can progress to become a Captain. If you join as an engineering officer you can become a Chief Engineer.
You will be sponsored during your training. The sponsorship package will
vary according to the training programme and the company concerned, but in
all cases tuition fees will be paid and the total costs of practical training
and experience at sea will be met by the company. In most cases, sponsorship
will include a salary or training allowance that will more than cover residential
costs at college.
